Robin's Egg Blues Just For You

A neighborhood Robin decided that a nest with a view was the most desired home on the block. He chose one of our hanging baskets on the front porch. Oh, she couldn't resist! The yellow blooms were so pretty!

Hung safely out of the reach of predators, the only thing that annoyed them was the crazy lady with the camera!

Protected from the rains, and wow! have we had rain here in NH lately.. most nests would not have survived the storm..

But their sweet home is flourishing, except the yellow blossoms, they are not fairing so well.

It's just too difficult to water a hanging basket with such precious cargo!
I hope you are finding shelter from the storm!

A Christmas Treat

Oh! The delight of it all! Bright colors, sweets stuck to candies, chocolates and treats! Sticky frosting, that tickles your tongue,
and a large jolly man who lets you eat lots, but only if your young! Young at heart I say, only for those who enjoy the day.
The sparkle, the glitter the shimmery sheen.
For those who think that candy is keen!
Ginger breads, gumdrops and kisses galore!
When he calls we come running, hungry for more!
He jiggles his belly with a "Ho Ho Ho!"
While tall gumdrop spires are lined up in a row.
Come one! Come all! Enjoy this fine season! Come on, have a nibble! Try it!
For when it is over, beware, for it'll be time for a diet!
Merry Christmas!

The gingerbread house was made by my very talented children. It sits on a cake stand surrounded by cotton fluff in our kitchen. The Baking Santa is my favorite. Sorry about the very poor poetry. :P I am punch drunk from baking, wrapping, making and photographing.

Living Life through Lady Bugs

I gathered them together to talk. It has been so long since all of my lady bugs were in one spot.

They sat in the shade enjoying their protection from little hands that loved to squish them quite harshly.

It is always the same. No matter how far they have traveled nor how long they have been apart, one takes the honor of the leader and then the bickering starts.

Lady Bugs can only be in each others company for so long before the popular Lady's (oh, you know.. the ones with the pretty spots and the brighter shades of red) begin the feel high and mighty.
They whisper and tee-hee about poor Jane. Oh goodness. Her wings have never closed properly. Foolish child really. Better to stay in the woods where no one sees.

But today they were brought together to celebrate every one of them. To me they are gorgeous.
Broken wings, missing legs, empty shells. They are just lovely to look at. To gaze at.

What is happening in their tiny world? Perhaps I should have let them get sucked up in my vacuume but then what would I have to blog about today?

It is the little things in life...

I have been looking at the world a little differently today.

I have been collecting stamps,

playing on roads of pearls and baubles...

and decorating for Halloween.

I have been looking through books..

doing some light reading,

And talking to the house guests.

OK, well maybe the conversations are a little one sided. Just a bit.

Have I completely lost my marbles?

My next post is number 400. The big 4-0-0. Wow. We need something big, a giveaway perhaps? let me think on it, and I'll be with you in a few.. )

The gathering.

Welcome to my home!
Please remember to thank our lovely hostess, Vanessa, for holding such a lovely bit of fun! You will find oddities and curiosities abound here.

Down Abbie's Road things are not so pretty, and most definitely not what they seem. Yes, all of the critters hang on our walls. Truly, they do.

Even Princess Katie has dressed for the occasion, wearing her best.

Please be sure to check to behind you, as the guests will be arriving all evening.

Even the tiniest of insects are joining the soiree.

I don't mean to boar you, alas, I fear, some of my guests are quite hard to bear.

Oh, deer, even the rats have begun to gather.

Spiders, however, will not be found in these parts as I find them just too gruesome!

But their tiny trails are left all over..

Perhaps you may find a bit of science, a bit of whimsy.

Always, good cooking.

Please have excellent conversations and meet new friends.

Don't forget your coat, as it is quite brisk out tonight.

Thank you for stopping by, perhaps I'll see you again.

It was a pleasure.
Don't forget to sign the guestbook as I'd love to visit you in return!

xoxo~

Button Fun! UPDATED!!

Anyone who knows me, knows I am a button floozy! I just love them and can not pass up a jar!
I discovered the button fun on Kathy's Blog and just had to join Sugar Sugar's Button challenge, even though I am a day late.. (ha! my husband is going to lol when he sees this as I am always late for everything!)

If you browse my blog, you'll find buttons all over the place, so I thought I'd share my most recent acquisition. This metal tin, when you first glance in it, appears to be filled with junk, but not to me!! Look at the lovelies that were buried inside! Glass, shell, metal, vegetable ivory..

My favorite is the one with the black velvet flowers and leaf.. how do they do that?? Alas, there was just the one. Now I have something else to hunt for!

For more button fun follow the above links or you can peek at Button Constructions, a wonderful Etsy shop filled with button love!

(my next post will be in response to the wonderful comments and emails I received this weekend! Thank you so much for all the supportive words, they made me cry!)

Spring Blessings..

I decided to add a bit of springtime to my blog for kari & kijsa's Spring Blessings post.. here are a pair of birdies that are resting in the arms of a 'tree' that I purchased at HomeGoods. It just needed 'more', so I added the cabbage roses, some cute little birds and other flowers. Hope this makes you smile! I think it's the sunshine behind them that really makes me smile!
Happy Spring!

Wonderful packages and five things..

Oh! I had such a wonderful Valentine's Day! I hope everyone else did too. First, the mail came and I had two packages!! Yeay! Love getting mail, especially from fabulous friends! First, my package from Tara had a beautiful blue rose teacup, Sutton of London tea, and a cream puff recipe!! Oh, it was so lovely to open her box, and on top, lay a page from a 1930 Newspaper. The real deal! Thank you so much for sharing such a treasure from your home, Tara!

The next fabulous package to arrive was from Sherry. Another YEAY!! A tin heart box was beautifully decorated and filled with fabulous crafting goodness! (♥and a few chocolates!) Wonderful tags, paper blooms and gorgeous red 'bling' hearts. Thank you Dear Sherry!

some of the goodies in my jars..

Alright, time to get down to business.. Rhonda tagged me to share five things that you don't already know.. hhmm.. I have shared alot lately, so this might be tricky..

1.) I was called 'bug eyes' in elementary school.. that was rough.. also four eyes.. yep, I wore glasses. In high school the eye doctor finally told me it was a waste of money for glasses, they didn't improve my eye sight, and I could see perfectly well out of my right eye. (stagmatism in the left) I never have been able to see 3D movies or pics.

2.) I am a plant killer. Love house plants, but they die horrible deaths when in my care. I do have some succulents, don't ask me what kind, I just know they thrive on abuse and neglect. (one is peeking in the top pic.)

3.) Love blue jeans. They are my most favorite piece of clothing, but none of them fit right since my last child.

4.) Love to travel, have seen the world, but TERRIFIED to fly ever since my first child was born. The last time I was on a plane I nearly threw up and I had an anxiety attack before I even boarded. (that was on meds..) The poor Stewardess, she tried so hard to calm me down, but I cried the entire flight.

5.) I feel awfully guilty if my home isn't spotless and neat because I am home all day. I know I shouldn't, but I can't help it. I have the blessing of being a stay at home mom and I just want everything to be perfect. Needless to say, I have discovered over the past year I am NOT Martha. Not even close. lol!! Ugghh.. this was a devastating and painful realization for me.

Ok.. above is a sneak peek at tomorrows post.. I visited my aunt's 1810 NH home and I took some more pics for you!!

Something to do..

As I was browsing my fav blogs this AM I ran across Suzanne's, At Home With the Farmer's Wife. she had taken up Mary's book tag so I thought I would too. I have just finished The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue Monk Kidd. Wow. all I have to say is "Wow." You must read. Anyway.. the tag goes like this..

1. Pick up the nearest book (of at least 123 pages).
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences.
5. Tag five people.

Sentence #5: "That night, when the darkness was weighed down with singing crickets and Rosaleen was snoring right along with them, I had myself a good cry."

The next three: "I couldn't even say why. Just everything, I guess. Because I hated lying to August when she was so good to me."

OK, two more, just to tease you.. "Because Rosaleen was probably right about dream worlds. Because I was pretty sure the Virgin Mary was not back there on the peach farm standing in for me the way she'd stood in for Beatrix."

The last request, to tag five people, well, consider yourself tagged if you wish!

Now, as for the above pic, Martha went and cancelled her newest Magazine, Blueprint! WTF? I love this Magazine!! It is so fresh, young, and chic! It helps me remember that there is an elegant, suave world out there! Oh, well.. they are adding to my Living subscription instead.. nothin' good lasts forever I suppose. I am very disappointed.. my journal/sketchbook lays on top of it.. atleast that won't be cancelled anytime soon, although if my creative fire doesn't start burnin' again it might well be!
