Knit two, ladybug one, purl two...
Friday, March 13, 2009 at 10:38AM I am in love. Yes, it's true... a new new love has stolen my heart and now occupies way too much of my day. You know that 'young love'? The kind that steals you away and you want to spend every minute with them? The kind that makes your mind and heart think of nothing else.. that is what I'm talking about. Two smooth sticks, a ball of yarn and I am in *heaven*. *Sigh* I started taking a knitting class last weekend and it fabulous!! Love, passion, a girlie crush, whatever it is, I am enjoying it most thoroughly!
While I was working the other day on my 'homework' this little ladybug decided to make an appearance.
Oh, you have no idea how wonderful his arrival is! It is a symbol of the coming of Spring!
The girls loved watching him run the needles. They cheered him on and when he fell, Momma would have to carefully place him back up on his balance beam.
The magazine below my work is last years Living from Martha Stewart. They really are timeless and I love to read them year after year looking for old 'new' ideas. I hope that you all are well and doing what you love! If not, find something to fall in love with, again or for the first time. It's so much fun!

Abbie, I had no idea, though it makes perfect sense, of the difference between the bamboo and the aluminum needle. I think I must look for some wood knitting needles now. It probably will make all the difference for me. Glad that you are enjoying your knitting class! It does sound like fun.

Oh, I remember that feeling when that was my new, fresh love. There is something so therapeutic about knitting - I just love it. ...especially when I am working with a fairly simplistic pattern! :-)
I'm so happy you enjoy knitting! It certainly is addicting and just wait until you see how much yarn you end up buying just because it was pretty, felt good, was on sale....
And my personal favorite needles are Brittany birch wood (straight or double pointed) and Addi Turbos (circulars.)

Knitting was the one thing that kept me sane and relaxed when I would wait in court to testify as an expert witness. :) Actually you will probably find that the wood needles are all you want to use. As they age and are used they pick up the body oils on your hands and the lanolin in yarns and will shape to you. So that you will feel very ackward using metal or plastic. Also because they are organic and absorb heat they are life savers for arthritic fingers :)
Have fun knitting is "comfort food" for your soul.

Looks like fun. I used to crochet then took up cross stitching and did that until I simply burned out on it. I'd love to do it again, but my eyesight, even with bifocals, won't cooperate with those tiny stitches on the linen I prefer to work. I've always admired knitters just because they always look so serene when they're working those stitches. Have fun and hope you'll show us your finished product!

Abbie, I would LOVE to learn to knit. I like to crochet, my Granny taught me when I was little. I'm a lefty so I've just kinda held back.I really do not need a new craft but that has never stopped me before. Love, Sally
Abbie, after years of doing self-taught crochet, I took a knitting class (this was a few years ago). I, too, fell in love with knitting! I can make scarves like you wouldn't believe, but haven't learned to make anything else! Right now where I live, the knitting classes are very expensive--can't afford them, but I would LOVE to learn how to knit socks! I'm so glad you found that you like to knit--keep practicing because it gets better and better and easier as you go along. I still use the bamboo needles, as I think they are the best. Oh Abbie, I've just discovered your blog & oh so glad I did...such a lovely post! I live Martha too (yeah we are on first name basis these days, tee hee). I'm also trying to learn to knit...just learned on circular needles and think it's kinda hard. I'll have to try the bamboo next. I must 'follow' you on your adventures!

Another passion of mine that I have for the longest time abandoned in a suit case but in due time it will come out… the knitting, the crocheting, the wool embroidery and the rest of my art. At the moment I’m in love with Digital Graphics.Hope to see more of what your knitting....looks real nice and uniform...luv the color of the wool and the ladybug of course....good luck it brings you.

Knitting is wonderful...I learned in my late teens and didn't knit for years and years (so that even now I am still an amateur), but now with 5 kids and another on the way, it is my Valium. It is almost impossible for me to remain tense and wound-up when I am knitting.

You have a wonderful blog! I started out learning crochet last year, I was too intimidated by knitting, but the desire to learn overpowered me and I began teaching myself at the end of this past year. I too am really enjoying it and my son has asked if I will ever crochet again. LOL I tend to stick to hats and scarves, still not bold enough to try socks, those heals really frighten me. So I am awed by the fact that you chose to start out with socks. Let us know how it went. I've seen articles mentioning the ability to do both at the same time. Also being an impatient crafter that sounds great to me. I can see myself finishing one sock and never starting the second.
